Margaret Mooney Named an ICON by Missouri Lawyers Media

Lashly & Baer, P.C. is excited to congratulate attorney Margaret M. Mooney, on being named a 2021 recipient of the Missouri Lawyers Media ICON Award. The ICON Award recognizes distinguished leaders in law, age 60 and older, for their notable, sustained success and strong leadership within and outside the field of law.
Attorney Margaret Mooney graduated with a Juris Doctorate from Columbia University in 1973 and began her practice in New York shortly after. She has spent her career working to serve others with a focus on educational law. She has extensive experience in litigation, administrative proceedings and alternative dispute resolution involving education, employment, contracts, torts and construction issues. For many years, she acted as the State of Missouri Hearing Officer for special education due-process hearings prior to the changes in state procedure. Outside of her legal career, Margaret has spent a significant amount of time helping support equality, being an advocate for children, women’s rights, and eliminating racism. For over 20 years, Mooney was a member of the Volunteer Lawyer Program, and served as the Legal Service’s AIDS Project Coordinator.
Mooney has been a long-time supporter of the St. Louis YWCA’s mission to empower women, developing children, and working to eliminate racism. Margaret has been a board member since 1998, and has served on many different committees as well as the Chairman of the Board in 2012. She is also a board member for Girls, Inc. providing educational, recreational and cultural programs to girls in a safe environment. She is a current board member for Kids in the Middle as well.
Education has also been a strong focus for Mooney. She is a current Chairman of the Board for the St. Louis Community College Foundation Board. In addition, she is member of the Executive Committee, the Long Range Committee, as well as a member of the Capital Campaign Committee.
Margaret Mooney has made St. Louis her home and has supported many organizations that help to build a stronger community. In addition to her financial support of local arts organizations such as the Arts and Education Council, Mooney has also supported Beyond Housing, and has been a leader of several community events for Our Lady of Lourdes in University City.
Margaret Mooney has been a long-standing member of Lashly & Baer for nearly 43 years, her work as an attorney and a member of the St. Louis community make her a worthy candidate of the title ICON. Mooney was honored at the annual ICON Award ceremony on August 24, 2021.
