Scott A. Pummell brings a diverse background to his legal work, which focuses on trial and appellate work. Scott’s practice includes commercial litigation, shareholder and corporate disputes, multi-district litigation, professional negligence issues, and premises liability work. Scott also has considerable experience with complex insurance disputes, both as a representative of insurers and insureds.
Importantly, Scott was a media and business leader before leaping into the legal profession. He worked for more than a decade as a managing editor, columnist, and newspaper reporter. Given this background, unique for a lawyer, he understands the demands and concerns of managing a business, and he always factors those needs and concerns into his legal advice.
Scott also has an active appellate practice. He earned considerable insight into the workings of appellate courts while serving as the Law Clerk to the Honorable Paul C. Wilson of the Missouri Supreme Court. Scott has successfully represented clients in appeals to the Missouri Supreme Court, the Missouri Court of Appeals, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
Scott graduated summa cum laude from the University of Missouri at Kansas City School of Law. While in law school, Scott earned eight CALI Excellence for the Future awards for scoring the top grade in those courses. He also served as the Lead Note and Comment Editor on the UMKC Law Review and represented UMKC in the National Moot Court Competition.
In his media career, Scott was recognized by the Associated Press Sports Editors as one of its Top 10 sports columnists. In his spare time, Scott also has earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, enjoys kayaking and backwoods camping, and volunteers for several charitable organizations.
