We have represented health care providers for more than 40 years. Initially, our clients were two major St. Louis hospitals. As the health care landscape changed, we did also. We now act as counsel to the four major health care systems in St. Louis, several independent hospitals, long-term care facilities, a medical school facility practice, St. Louis' largest air and ground ambulance services, nursing homes, surgery centers, urgent care facilities, individual, group and integrated physician practices, a national health care consulting company, a national dialysis company, the state nursing organization, rural health clinics, and other health care providers. Two of our health care attorneys has been selected on an annual basis by their peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America and several have been recognized as Missouri Kansas Super Lawyers. In addition, several of our health care attorneys have educational backgrounds in health care, including Masters of Law in Health and Certificate of Health Law. Others have practical experience in health care delivery, including three registered nurses. We represent more than 50 hospitals and an equal number of nursing homes across the States of Missouri and Illinois through both insurance carriers and self-insurance programs in professional and general liability matters involving visitors and patients, design and use of medical equipment, breach of contract, denial of medical staff privileges, and intentional tort actions such as false imprisonment, defamation, and assault. We represent approximately 60 other hospitals throughout the State of Missouri in a claim against certain tobacco manufacturers and others involved in the tobacco industry to recover their unreimbursed costs incurred in treating indigent and nonpaying patients suffering from tobacco related diseases. We regularly litigate reimbursement matters on behalf of providers and against Medicare, Medicaid, and managed care entities. One such action netted an additional $5.9 million for our client.
