Lashly & Baer maintains a large full-service library facility with networked desktop access to electronic resources for all attorneys and staff. We regularly retrieve court dockets and opinions, pending legislation, administrative rulings, tax publications, and legal forms from CD-ROM and Internet-based services provided by WESTLAW^®, The Bureau of National Affairs, Inc., Research Institute of America Group, CCH, Inc., LOIS Professional Library^®, and the Federal and State government departments and agencies. We electronically access the holdings of local, regional and national university and public libraries to locate additional resources.

Lashly & Baer is currently networked in a Microsoft environment. We currently have several Compaq/HP servers with Windows 2000 and Windows NT used for file sharing, Microsoft Exchange for communications, Elite for accounting and SQL-based applications for database management. The attorneys and staff of Lashly & Baer utilize Gateway Personal Computers that are networked using 3COM switches for faster connectivity. Many of our attorneys use Gateway's Mobile Intel Pentium 4 (up to 1.7 GHz) laptops. These laptops have CD-ROM or CDRW/DVD drives. Each staff member has a Visioneer sheetfed scanner at their desk. We have a Castelle fax server which allows employees to send and receive faxes at their desk.

The software being used at our workstations consists of Microsoft Windows 98/2000/XP and Microsoft Office XP-Professional Edition. We use Microsoft Word for word processing, Excel for spreadsheets, PowerPoint for presentations, Outlook for calendaring, contact management and e-mail, and Access for database. Attorneys and staff also have experience on WordPerfect and Lotus 1.2.3. On Base is used as a SQL database utilizing OCR and images. We use Adobe Capture for scanning and indexing Adobe PDF documents. We provide high-speed access to the Internet through a business DSL line connected to our server. Trial Director Suite and Live Notes are being used for litigation support. Each employee has a firm e-mail address. Attorneys and staff have the ability to connect to our server from outside the office to access both documents and e-mail.
