Founded in 1912, our practice includes individual, business, and nonprofit clients who are active in every significant industry and range in size from small start-up enterprises to established national companies. Over the years, our areas of practice have grown to serve the new and varied needs of our clients in a rapidly changing regulatory and business environment. We advise new and developing business enterprises as well as governmental and public institutions in governance and operational matters; assist in the acquisition and disposition of manufacturing plants and business operations; address important environmental law issues; advise health care providers; provide tax information for business clients; handle product liability and environmental claims; counsel developers on redevelopment incentives and tax-exempt finance; assist in planning and financing business expansion and real estate development through equity and debt; provide individual tax planning; counsel individuals on personal matters and estate planning; and represent private employers and major governmental agencies in labor and employment matters.

Our diverse clients reflect the broad range of legal services we offer. Lashly & Baer, P.C. serves as counsel to service, manufacturing and commercial corporations and other business enterprises, health care providers, school districts, public transportation agencies, governmental agencies, bank holding companies and other financial institutions, community organizations, partnerships, estates and trusts. The Firm represents insurance carriers in professional malpractice litigation and in coverage questions and represents fidelity and surety carriers and excess and surplus lines carriers. We serve as regional counsel for a major automobile manufacturer and have been involved in significant business litigation, including antitrust, trade regulation, construction, product liability, securities, and labor and employment matters.

As the Firm has grown, we have been requested to serve our clients on a regional and national basis. As a consequence, more than half of our attorneys are licensed in Illinois and some are licensed to practice in Arkansas, California, Florida, Kansas, Minnesota, New York, Texas, and Wisconsin, as well as being admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second, Fifth, Seventh, Eighth and Tenth Judicial Circuits, the United States Tax Court, New York Court of Appeals, United States Court of Federal Claims, and the United States District Courts for the Eastern District of Missouri, the Western District of Missouri, the Southern District of Illinois, the Central District of Illinois, the Eastern District of New York, the Southern District of New York, the District of Kansas, the Eastern District of Arkansas, the Western District of Arkansas, the Eastern District of Texas, the Western District of Texas, and the Northern District of Texas.

The Firm was founded by Jacob M. Lashly, one of Missouri's outstanding trial lawyers and a President of the American Bar Association. Another aspect of our legacy is the commitment to the communities in which we live and work. This public service tradition was evidenced by Mr. Lashly's active role in significant civic, charitable and community organizations as well as Missouri politics. This tradition continues as each lawyer contributes according to individual talents, time and interests. Former members of the Firm have served as a member of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives, on the United States District Court of the Eastern District of Missouri; the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern Division; and the Circuit Court of the State of Missouri. A number of the Firm's current lawyers have held high-level appointive and elective positions in state and local government, including Counsel to the Governor, Missouri Representative to the National Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws, the Missouri Reorganization Commission, the Missouri Housing Development Commission, the Missouri State Employees Retirement System, Chairman of the St. Louis County Council, Chairman of the Board of Election Commissioners of St. Louis County, the St. Louis County Charter Revision Commission, and Vice President of the Board of Police Commissioners of the City of St. Louis. Many of our attorneys are active at the local governmental level as planning and zoning board members. Some are active on behalf of major political parties.
